What is a Viking composite cylinder?

Our composite cylinders are a safer, lighter alternative to steel and aluminum propane tanks. Constructed using a mixture of fibers and plastic resin instead of metal, Viking Cylinders tanks are designed with a three-layer construction:

  • A completely seamless, blow-molded liner
  • A fiberglass-wrapped plastic casing
  • A durable outer case

No special valve adaptors are needed to use or fill composite cylinders. All cylinders are manufactured in accordance with U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) special permits, and composite propane gas cylinders include the same approved valves, pressure-relief devices, and overfill-prevention devices as traditional steel and aluminum propane tanks.

Why choose a Viking composite cylinder?

While there are several advantages to choosing a Viking Cylinders product over steel propane gas tanks, a key benefit is safety. Traditional steel tanks can explode when put under stress (such as a puncture or a fire), but a Viking Cylinders tank will not explode in a fire. Tests have proven that our propane gas cylinders will react with a controlled burnout when in a fire, and bullets puncturing the cylinder do not cause fires or explosions.
